In the eastern Congolese rainforest are savanna elephants that are relatively small, and live mostly in the forest. In Western central Africa there is an elephant that looks more different from savanna elephants than do Indian elephants and they are very small; these are the distinct species to which you refer. <br /><br />I've been watching the genetic sampling progress and I await the moment when DNA expertise start dips to catch up with the field knowledge and maybe pay a little attention to it. <br /><br />The largest African elephants are largest of all elephants but African elephants cary a great deal across very large geographical ranges.
